Mentor/Mentee Session One

Mentor/Mentee Session One

Work on picking your topic.

Work on developing the content, the message, the key points.

Begin thinking about what you want to say,
how you want to say it
to who/whom you want to say it to.

Here are the names of great speakers to begin with.

There are many more that can be added.

Search for each of these using Google, Bing, Yahoo, YouTube, Slideshare, etc.

Robert Henry - name I could not recall
he had a movie made of one of speeches long before video technology existed and carried it to show to potential clients.

Terry Paulson - Speak, Speak, Speak
Nido Qubein - systemize, systemize, systemize

Zig Ziglar
Les Brown

Going for the MEET UP may be very motivational for you and well worth the money.

Denis Waitley
Brain Tracey

Keith Harrell

Ken Blanchard
Barbara Glanz

Robert Schuller
Norman Vicent Peale

John Maxwell

All of these are excellent examples of speakers and writers
to learn from.

Perhaps you can set aside a set amount of time each day M to F
for Karen Becoming a Full-Time Professional Speaker Development time.

watch videos on YouTube
read articles, books,

Develop a habit of asking everyone you speak for
for suggestions or recommendations of people
for you to contact about speaking for them.

Collect testimonial letters and referrals

Then organize, organize, organize them by industry, profession, occupation, etc.

  1. Dr. Black, I not sure where my first comment disappeared too, but I'll try again here. I am as prepared as I can be for my event this Saturday. I have also had the opportunity to find ways to carve out time for my training and development as a speaker. I found and got lost in some Earl Nightingale you tube videos. I was also able to find Ken Blanchard on a TEDx video; and I like his style. I have thought through what I mean by "Faith and Leadership" as a platform and am ready to share that with you during our next session hopefully this coming Friday if you are in town. I am getting into the habit of talking and asking people I meet to allow me to speak at their events; That's getting easier!!! Thanks for the advice, I have been living on it for the past few weeks!

  2. Alan,

Thank you so much for the conversation today. I think I know what I will make my next speech about. It may be a little inflammatory for this group so lets talk about it before I do too much work on it. :) Karen

  3. Talk a little with Terance. His speech about particular sexual practices
should have SHOCKED them out of their SOCKS.

    He handled very well.

I read your email about the lecture....I responded already to that and will copy it here again...

    Karen

Since the 80s when myself and a few TM regulars stopped using the Lecturn TM 1779 members
have become obsessed against the use of the lecture, podium, whatever.

In this case you really didn't need it. I didn't see it benefitted you

If you are going to use it
    then...

    use it

don't just glance by it once in awhile.

There will be places where a lecture, pulpit, podium will be standard or expected.

Remember TM 1779 is made up of BEGINNERS
with a couple who have completed the first manual
and now think they know all there is to speaking.

Next week my plan is to sit on a stool in front.

Let's see how they deal with that.

I forgot that I had set up this blog for us to share and to keep our comments all in one place

  5. Hi Alan,

You were amazing today! Your posture, the rate at which you spoke was very impressive. I hope as I continue to speak more and more, the confidence I feel in my head, will be the confidence that is expressed in my speech. I will make sure to find the book by Frank Bettger that you mentioned; hopefully I will be able to. The stool was a great touch, as was getting down on the floor for effect. Thank you so much for the magazine, you didn't even open it, yet you would lend it to a hopeful friend. I will take good care of it and return it as soon as I can. Looking forward to Saturday; lets connect via email concerning our adventure this weekend.
